I create these pieces in response to concepts or events. The painting at the bottom was conceived after the Newtown, Connecticut shootings. I used a worn carnival arcade game as a backdrop to remind the viewer of the historical role of shooting games in the U.S. Instead of three ducks, I painted children playing. Just like the students and staff of Newtown, these kids are innocently going about their day unaware that someone is aiming a weapon at them. As the viewer, you are in the position to act.
The painting with the Arabic lettering is about peace. I pulled together representations of what currently undermine our sense of peace (materialism and human attempts to set any group in a position of spiritual authority) with contrasting colors in a grid scheme. The shapes appear to be moving in space but, whether our religion includes excess consumerism or world domination, that is all part of the illusion we buy into. It's really just a slab of wood with a polymer coating.
The painting in the upper right is created in response to the concept, "Shame." It depicts some of the shame commonly experienced by women in our society. See if you can figure out the references ;)
I created the painting below (flag) in response to work experience and historical research. It is called Secret Soldiers and is about Joint Special Forces Operations in Western Asia and North Africa. The painting on the bottom (vintage cars) tells the story of overlapping interests between military and industrial concerns.
