These images are of a mural commissioned for a pub in downtown Kirkland. The pub's owner provided a theme (Kirkland history with a waterfront background) and chose from one of three sketches I put together. The start date is April 28 and the pub is scheduled for a grand opening on June 1.
This mural was really fun to research and it evolved as the pub was built. You will notice that there was no lighting for the first week (construction light shown in pictures). This mural is painted on an untreated cinderblock surface with water soluble acrylic and latex paints. Its dimensions are 10'x30'.
Day 2: Above (April 29) The Wall is patched, sanded and I am finishing the priming/sealing. The construction material in the foreground belonged to the construction team building the pub. They were a skilled group of craftsmen and it was great to work with them.
Day 8: Below The wall has been patched, sealed and primed with a warm tone. I have the yarn attached to help me check perspective and I am painting images into the mural. Because of the size of the wall, I repositioned some features to make them more prominent in the composition.
About three days to finish... Details are being added and I am still working on the cars. The paints need to cure before I can varnish so the target date for completion is May19.
May 19: The mural is finished! It shows the old Kirkland Ferry terminal, the ferry clock (dedicated to Captain Anderson), golf balls on the lawn (reflecting the golf theme of the pub), vintage Cheverolet cars with the Lee Johnson name on the lisence plates, and a sign post directing people to the original Kirkland homestead, Moss Bay Steel Mill and the Peter Kirk building. (sign post not shown in picture).
Contact me for an estimate. I would love to design your mural!
